Outreach Coordinator Cecilia Gómez was honored this week during the Human Rights Day celebration for her work with Conexión Américas and with Free for Life International, an agency that works with survivors of human trafficking.
Cecilia was named a Rising Advocate in the Nashville community. The award was given by the local Human Rights Day committee, which works “to educate the community at large about human rights, thereby building a culture of peace and tolerance for all people.”
As Outreach Coordinator for Conexión Américas, Cecilia attends community functions to promote the organization’s services and the Spanish-language “Don’t Drink and Drive” campaign.
This year the committee also honored the Rev. Bill Barnes, Rosetta Miller Perry and Attorney George Barrett with Lifetime Achievement awards. Daoud Abudiab, who works with the Islamic Center of Columbia, also was named a Rising Advocate.
“Both are quite incredible and we are sure they are bound to continue in their work to spread peace and positive messages for human rights.” the committee said of Cecilia and Daoud.
