Conexión Américas participated in the nationwide “Day of Dignity and Respect” for immigrants and their families by collecting 350 signatures Saturday, Oct. 5 that will be mailed to U.S. Representatives.
The message: Pass comprehensive immigration reform now!
The effort is part of a movement by a diverse coalition of immigrant rights and civil rights organizations who are urging Congress to act on immigration reform that leads to citizenship and to treat immigrants with the dignity they deserve.
There were rallies in 180 cities across the country on Saturday, including Nashville, which was held at Centennial Park. You can see photos taken in the United States here. The national events will lead to a rally in Washington, D.C. on October 8.
Conexión Américas staff, interns and volunteers spanned throughout the Celebrate Nashville event at Centennial Park collecting signatures from Tennesseans demanding action, which we are forwarding to members of Congress.
“We are happy to lend our energy and support to help Nashvillians let their voices be heard in Washington so Congress knows the people want comprehensive immigration reform,” said Renata Soto, executive director of Conexión Américas. “Thank you to everyone who so willingly signed their names.”
