Our third annual Festival Familiar (Family Festival) went virtual this year. This festival usually takes place at Azafrán Park and focuses on introducing families to our programs and programs from Casa Azafrán and community partners. This year we provided families with tools and resources through a weeklong series of videos and online events, culminating in a drive-through resource day on July 25th. After a week of virtual activities that included dancing, reading, and craft making, our third annual Festival Familiar culminated in a a drive-through resource day this past Saturday, where families picked up school supplies, meals, educational activities, and information about local resources.
On Saturday, we distributed 300 boxes of food, 300 prepared meals, and 300 school supply kits, which included loose leaf paper, pencils, colored pencils, crayons, and glue sticks, as well as cloth face masks, coloring books, and other educational activities. We are extremely grateful for our sponsors and volunteers who helped us put on a safe and successful event.
A big gracias to all the community members who donated school supplies and the dozens of volunteers who made the event possible. Special thanks to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, Nashville Public Library, Book ‘Em, Feed the Front Line, Karla Ruiz, David Esquivel, Nashville Soccer Club, Judge Ana Escobar, Nashville Noticias, Tempo Nashville, Desserts by Mo, Rachel Rodriguez, and Wilson Bank & Trust.
