Conexión Américas seeks qualified candidates for the position of Youth Enrichment Assistant. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills in English and Spanish and experience working with kids ages 3-15 years old. The candidate will also demonstrate an understanding of or interest in creating developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities development for youth. Experience with childcare, education, babysitting/nannying preferred. The successful candidate must be highly organized, compassionate, creative, adaptable to working with people of diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds, and have a passion for working with youth. This position works partly in Spanish, native level fluency is required. Please note that part of the interview will be conducted in Spanish.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
This is a part-time staff position that reports to the Associate Director of Family Engagement. The Youth Enrichment Assistant will be responsible for the planning and implementation of childcare activities, including content creation and volunteer/childcare assistant coordination for the Padres Comprometidos (Parents as Partners) parental engagement program for Latino parents. The Padres Comprometidos program is a 9-week series of workshops, delivered completely in Spanish, which help Latino parents understand the school system and advocate for their child. Youth enrichment activities are offered during all in-person programs, serving kids 3-5 at the elementary level and 3-15 at the middle school level. This role will be responsible for implementing childcare (whether through direct delivery or volunteer coordination) at 4-5 school sites per semester. This position requires a flexible schedule, with primary availability from 8:15-10:45 am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and 5:45-8:15 pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Candidates should only apply if they have general availability during these time slots and have reliable transportation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Youth Programming Curriculum
- Develop 2-3 developmentally appropriate activities for children to complete per workshop
- Work with Associate Director to price activity materials and ensure adherence to program budget
- Prepare activity materials for workshops
- Revise and update youth activities as needed
- When available, coordinate with external partners to provide special activity workshops.
Implement Youth Enrichment Activities:
- Prepare, set-up, and clean-up of all childcare related workshop materials
- Provide a safe and engaging environment for youth
- Be attentive, responsive, and watchful of the youth throughout the entire time
- Use cell phone responsibly and only to communicate with program coordinator
- Ensure students do not roam school hallways or classrooms and are always within view
- Ensure youth do not touch, move, or use school equipment or materials - Conexión Américas will provide all items for student use unless explicitly instructed by the school
- Log arrival and departure time during each session
- Arrive 15 mins early to review the weekly activity agenda, gather materials, and greet youth
- Ensure all children are signed in and accounted for during session
- Use daily agenda & materials. Gather and tidy all materials at the end of each session
- Treat students with respect and kindness. Firmly hold youth accountable to rules
- Students may use their chromebooks, tablets, cells, etc as long as they are always within view
- Text or call the program coordinator immediately if any issues arises during the workshop or if the group of kids must be watched while accompanying a child to the bathroom.
Childcare Assistant/Volunteer Coordination:
- Support recruitment and coordination childcare volunteers and paid childcare assistants
- Conduct interviews to vet childcare volunteers and paid childcare assistants
- Communicate with potential candidates about requirements, and conduct thorough follow-up to ensure completion of mandatory requirements (e.g., background checks, childcare training)
- Conduct training meeting with childcare volunteers and paid childcare assistants to review planned activities and childcare expectations
- Maintain close communication with program staff and childcare providers to ensure any performance issues are promptly addressed
- Review volunteer sign-ins to prepare timesheets for review
- Occasionally support program coordinator and staff in the outreach and implementation portions of the program.
Qualifications (Education and Experience)
- This position works in Spanish; native level fluency is required.
- High school diploma required
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish required; biculturalism required
- Flexibility, creativity, initiative and ability to work as a team member required
- Ability and comfort caring for youth in both English and Spanish
- Ability to interact with diverse groups of stakeholders required
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent computer skills, including MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and database management required
- Reliable transportation required
- Ability to carry up to 50 lbs. required
- Demonstrated appreciation for Latino culture and people required
- Candidates must be able to pass the required background check.
Hourly Rate & Schedule
- $25.50 hourly rate; about 15-25 hrs per week based on programming needs during the school year
- Ability to work from home as role responsibilities allow
- A weekly schedule will be coordinated every semester based on programming dates and candidate availability
- Summer hours are significantly decreased, about 5-10 hrs per week.
